A crowd of over 70 people from the residence and the local Maroochydore community came together on Friday to celebrate 5 years of Arcare Aged Care in Maroochydore, with the theme “As Time Goes By.” The crowd size was double the size of the expected amount and the theatre, outdoor courtyard and private dining room was filled with clients, team members, friends, daughters, sons, and grandchildren.
The event featured a “Walk Down Memory Lane” slideshow with photos from the last 5 years, a photo booth wall with props and delicious finger food such as meatballs, spring rolls and a chocolate fountain. The residence was decorated with purple and silver balloons, tablecloths and centrepieces for the event to match the Arcare colours.
There was a musical performance by local musician, Gwen who played the electric keyboard and started a singalong. It was a day filled with happiness, memories and laughter. Everyone got to celebrate two very important birthday milestones and experience what it’s like to be a part of our Arcare family.
The photo booth wall was also a very popular activity among the younger and older generation as it allowed them to dress up and pose for the camera. They wore feather boas and sparkly hats as they stood in front of a train station backdrop.
The cake-cutting ceremony was led by residence manager, Radhika Nath and Isabell Webb, who is Arcare Maroochydore’s oldest client at 102 years old, and one of the first clients to move into the residence in 2014.
A Melbourne-bred girl who worked with lace embroidery, Isabell has always had an eye for detail and a love for pretty things. In her pink dress and dainty pearl necklace, it was a stark contrast to see Isabell wielding a knife as long as her forearm. But as she boldly cuts the floral birthday cake with a big knife, the crowd bursts into a song of Happy Birthday!
“I enjoyed myself and I am very happy to be asked to cut the cake. I am very independent and I don’t need anyone helping me to cut the cake or put the brakes on my wheelie walker.” Isabell jokingly said.
“Our 5th birthday celebration is a milestone achievement and we wanted to celebrate it with our 90 clients. It is such a great way to cherish past memories as well as create new ones together.
Seeing clients with their families, the young and the old together is always a heartfelt moment,” residence manager Radhika said.
