The behaviour of male ministers, MPs, and staffers in Parliament makes me sick. But honestly, I'm not surprised.

There's nothing I've heard that I haven't experienced or supported a loved one through. Most women face the threat of attack on our way home at night, harassment on the street, and are routinely undermined and underpaid at work. On top of this, some women experience the compounding harms of domestic violence, transphobic attacks, and racist sexism too.

But right now, even the Morrison Government is being forced to act. Why?

Because Brittany Higgins won't let up in her fight against sexual violence in Parliament. Senator Lidia Thorpe is speaking up about the racist sexual harassment she faces every day. Trans and Filipino communities are demanding justice for the violent killing of Mhelody Bruno. And a petition started by Chanel Contos is rallying thousands of young women behind the call for better consent education in schools.

Politicians and decision-makers on every level are now feeling the pressure to take action.

There's never been a better time to start a petition on a gender justice issue you care about — from saving your local domestic violence centre from funding cuts, through to targeting a company profiting off racist sexism. And my team, the Campaigns by Me team, will be there to support you every step of the way.

As a survivor of sexual assault at school, Chanel Contos is determined to ensure other girls don't have the same experience. So she set up a petition, and gathered thousands of stories from young women like herself demanding robust and timely education on sex and consent in school.

Chanel's powerful campaign has made headlines and transformed the conversation around sexual violence in schools — leaving governments scrambling to catch up.

So what change would you like to see? Here are just a few examples of campaigns you could start:

🏫 Back in Chanel's call for robust sex and consent education for your state or school.
📞 Demand culturally appropriate domestic violence services that work for your community.
👕 Call on your children's school to let girls wear shorts or whatever uniform students want to wear.
🏊 Fight for access to women's facilities like pools or gyms for all women — ending the transphobic exclusion of some women.
🏠 Stop the closure of a local domestic violence shelter.

Your campaign doesn't have to be perfect — what's most important is that you strike while the moment is hot, and that you reach out to your family, friends, and community to get on board.

We'll give you a ring to chat through your plan to grow and win your campaign, and we can look over your petition before it goes out wider. You'll be supported each step of the way.

If your campaign is really gaining steam, we could send it out to other GetUp members to rally more people behind you.

Campaigns by Me even has tools to help you organise protests and events and empower your supporters to email key decision-makers — so you'll have what you need to raise the heat and win.

Every day, we are more safe, secure, and free because of the campaigns fought and won by the women and gender justice activists who came before us.

From the campaigns started by activists in the 1970s to establish domestic violence shelters, through to the same-sex adoption rights secured by LGBTQI activists, and no-fault divorce, child support, and spousal maintenance won by feminists over decades.

History shows us that change is made not by Cabinet reshuffles, but by communities showing up and fighting for our rights.

Join them, and lead your own campaign today. We'll be right behind you.

In solidarity,

Clodagh for the Campaigns by Me team
