Tewantin Noosa RSL Sub-Branch has opened a design competition with a cash prize of $2000 for the winning entry. They are calling for artists and creative types who live in the Noosa Shire to submit a design for a public artwork to be located outside the Sub-Branch premises on the corner of Memorial Avenue and Poinciana Drive in Tewantin.
The Tewantin Noosa RSL Sub-Branch are funding the design and construction of a memorial artwork that they wish to convey the objectives of the RSL, which is to provide support, advice and fellowship to Veterans of all ages and their families.
“The Sub-Branch does so much in our local community and we are looking for a contemporary artwork to convey the themes of mateship and supporting those in need as well as being representative of the community,” said Tewantin Noosa RSL Sub-Branch President Mick Reid.
“The Noosa Shire has such a great collection of talent we can’t wait to see what some of their ideas are for this artwork which will be a focus point in Tewantin.”
The Sub-Branch provides a wide variety of information and services to the veteran community including welfare advice, assistance and pension advocacy. They maintain the memorial cemetery, have an extensive display of memorabilia and liaise with local schools and community groups on military history. They conduct local ceremonial services such as ANZAC Day, Vietnam Veterans Day and Remembrance Day which are always well attended.
Full guidelines and terms and conditions on the Memorial Artwork Competition can be found on the Sub-Branch website at www.tnrsl.com.au.
Submissions are due by 31 January 2018.
