Police are investigating the assault of man in Noosa Heads early this morning.

At 2.30am, a 22-year-old Noosaville man was waiting in line at a taxi rank on Noosa Drive when he was struck in the head by a woman.

The man fell to the road, hit his head on the bitumen and lost consciousness.

He was transported to Nambour Hospital where he remains with serious but non-life threatening injuries including a fractured skull.

Investigations are continuing.
