The second suburb at Stockland’s $5 billion Aura community on the Sunshine Coast will open to the public today (Thursday, 4 April) at midday, with the first roads and streets including a 120-metre bridge into the residential precinct now completed.

Aura Central will be the future heart of Aura and will feature a future 90-hectare City Centre, the People’s Place with a South Bank-style parkland, and a range of sporting and education facilities as well as the residential precinct which is currently under construction.

So far, around 10 kilometres of cycling and walking paths have been created in Aura Central, with eight kilometres of roads constructed, 21 kilometres of water and sewer mains installed and more than 180,000 plants now growing.

Josh Sondergeld, Project Director at Stockland, said the opening of the first roads into the suburb was a major milestone for Aura, which launched its first suburb, Baringa, in 2016, and would allow building to begin on the first homes.

“Aura Central will be the beating heart of Aura and will become a thriving 24/7 retail, residential, commercial, health, education and entertainment hub,” Mr Sondergeld said.

“Aura’s outstanding liveability, affordability and accessibility is a major drawcard for buyers and more than 70 per cent of lots released have sold since sales launched at Aura Central early last year.

“Aura Central will be delivered in stages with the first stage being the residential precinct, which is proving extremely popular with buyers who recognise the benefits of living close to the future city centre.

“The entrance over our new bridge into Aura Central has spectacular views of the Glass House Mountains and I encourage everyone to come down and take a look for themselves.”

The new bridge, which crosses over Bells Creek North, will provide a link from Aura Boulevard into Aura Central and allow residents and visitors their first look at the new suburb up close.

Construction on Aura Central’s first homes is set to begin in the coming weeks and the first residents at Aura Central are expected to move in mid-year.

At the same time, works will begin on two new parks which are planned to open before the end of the year. In addition, a 7.5-hectare sports park featuring four rectangular sports fields, four netball courts, and a clubhouse is anticipated to be delivered by the middle of next year.

Aura was recognised as the fastest selling residential community for land sales in Australia in 2018, and has already emerged as a key generator of employment on the Coast.

Highlights of Aura Central, which is expected to eventually deliver 6,000 ongoing jobs as part of an anticipated 20,000 long-term positions at Aura, will incorporate a future urban university, two proposed public primary schools and two proposed private schools.

Upon completion it will also feature numerous community centres, parks, a conservation area and an extensive network of dedicated cycling and walking paths, including the continuation of the Aura Veloway.

Meanwhile, construction on the Stockland Baringa Shopping Centre and Baringa Tavern is progressing well and Baringa’s first early learning centre is now open. The shopping centre is expected to open mid-year, while the tavern is due to be operating by the end of the year.

The first business at the $215 million Aura Business Park is open, with the first two stages sold out.

Aura Central offers a wide range of quality home sites, with prices ranging from $212,900 for a 250 square metre lot to $289,900 for a 575 square metre lot.
