Dr Patricia Petersen, Leader of the Australian Independents, said that she is disgusted by and demanding immediate action in relation to the deliberate killing of a dingo on Fraser Island two days ago.

“This is outrageous. No more talk fests. No more passing the buck. We need our dingoes protected and we need them protected right now,” she said.

“Only guided tours should be allowed. Rangers should be with tourists at all times. There shouldn’t be any opportunity for anyone to mow down an innocent animal, an endangered species in this vile manner,” she said.

“I’m hopeful that a witness or witnesses come forward so that the perpetrator of this heartless, sociopathic, morally repugnant act gets dragged into court and convicted. It’s not on. It’s not acceptable,” said Dr Petersen.

Dr Petersen said that she “fell in love” with dingoes when she recently toured the Fraser Coast region and visited Fraser Island.

“I love all animals, but I fell in love with dingoes. They are special creatures. We simply must protect them,” she said.
