Beware of internet scammers, Sunshine Coast

Following recent complaints Coolum police are warning members of the public to hang up the phone if they receive a call claiming there is a problem with their internet connection or computer.

Coolum residents have reported scammers calling and raising a false alarms that they are at risk of their internet being disconnected immediately.

The scammers claim their computer has been hacked or infected with malware and the caller claims that they are able to fix the problem on the spot.

It is important to remember to always check credentials and never give them your personal information, passwords or credit card details.

If you are in any doubt hang up and contact your internet provider directly.

The scammers are reported to be speaking in foreign accents and have hung up when challenged about their authenticity.
