Stockland’s Birtinya Retirement Village is giving Sunshine Coast seniors the opportunity to improve their health and fitness and meet new friends with the introduction of a free weekly gentle exercise class starting on Friday, 20 April.
The Seniors Stay Active exercise class will be held each Friday at 7am in scenic Birtinya parkland overlooking Lake Kawana with accredited exercise physiologist Gavin Buzza.
Pauline Barton, Regional Development Manager for Retirement Living at Stockland, said the classes were specifically designed for those aged 55 years and over.
“We’re inviting local seniors from the Sunshine Coast region to join us for some fresh air, exercise and the chance to make new friends and improve their health and fitness for free,” Ms Barton said.
“Stockland is committed to creating thriving, healthy communities and these exercise classes are one of the many ways that we are helping residents to live an active and healthy lifestyle.”
Mr Buzza has more than 15 years’ experience working with older adults, athletes and sporting teams, including more recently in the cardiac and day rehabilitation centre of a local private hospital.
He said the Seniors Stay Active exercise class was aimed at helping people maintain and improve their fitness, muscle strength, coordination and balance through their senior years and would include tips for incorporating exercise and physical activity into daily routines.
“It’s very important to maintain a healthy exercise program as we get older, especially for independence and falls prevention,” he said.
Participants should meet at the Stockland Oceanside Sales and Information Centre car park, on the corner of Lake Kawana Boulevard and Birtinya Boulevard, Birtinya, at 7am each Friday from 20 April.
While the classes are free, bookings are essential by phoning 1800 727 170. Alternatively, visit the www.stockland.com.au/RetireBirtinya News and Events page for more details and a link to online bookings.
