Cabinet's first meeting to be on the Sunshine Coast

Published:

The Palaszczuk Government’s first Cabinet meeting of the new term will be held in Caloundra next Monday, November 16th.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said it was appropriate that her new Ministry would meet on the Sunshine Coast which had shown such strong support for her Government at the recent election.

“It was a tremendous honour to receive the trust of the people of Caloundra who chose Jason Hunt to join my team for this next term - along with Rob Skelton in Nicklin pending the ECQ’s final determination,” Ms Palaszczuk said.

“And just to the south, Ali King in Pumicestone is another important addition to my Government.

“We will get straight down to business with a Cabinet meeting in Caloundra on Monday to start the process of implementing our election commitments, just days after ministers were sworn in.

“The Sunshine Coast is highly valued by my Government and I want to thank the people of the area.

“I know many voters would have chosen Labor for the first time and I promise to work every day to honour their trust as our economy recovers and grows from COVID-19.

“I also know that Queenslanders throughout the entire state have given us a great responsibility for the next four years, and I will ensure that we respect that by also travelling to other regions.”

The incoming Member for Caloundra Jason Hunt said it would be a great pleasure to host Cabinet on the Sunshine Coast.

“The Sunshine Coast is a key business, tourism and primary production region with a growing population,” Mr Hunt said.

“During the election campaign we made it clear that a re-elected Palaszczuk Labor Government would focus on the social, economic and infrastructure needs of this area.

“We’ve committed more doctors, nurses and health staff for the Sunshine Coast, a new ambulance station in Caloundra South, more new schools, new facilities for the Mooloolaba TAFE and an expansion of the Sunshine Coast Stadium.”

Rob Skelton said it would be an honour to represent Nicklin as part of the Premier’s Sunshine Coast team, once the Electoral Commission has finalised the result.

“Holding the very first Cabinet of the new term here is a testament to the people of the Sunshine Coast and a sign of our determination to keep our promises,” Mr Skelton said.

“Jason and I will work together to make sure that local issues are addressed throughout the next four years.”
