The AUWU is asking its members to urgently contact crossbench MPs today asking them to reject the government's plan to make cashless welfare permanent.
Cashless welfare violates our rights, takes away our control over how we manage our budget and starves local businesses of funds. Stakeholders are overwhelmingly against the cashless debit card because we know it harms people.
The government has been holding back a report that proves we are right, which has now been leaked to the media. They are attempting to force a bill through today that will make cashless welfare permanent despite their own evidence exposing its problems.
The crossbench senators have expressed doubts and said they wanted evidence. The evidence is in and it proves this program should not continue. If we can stop them voting for this bill we can stop cashless welfare becoming permanent.
