Call MPs to urge against cashless welfare

Published:

The AUWU is asking its members to urgently contact crossbench MPs today asking them to reject the government's plan to make cashless welfare permanent.

Cashless welfare violates our rights, takes away our control over how we manage our budget and starves local businesses of funds. Stakeholders are overwhelmingly against the cashless debit card because we know it harms people.

The government has been holding back a report that proves we are right, which has now been leaked to the media. They are attempting to force a bill through today that will make cashless welfare permanent despite their own evidence exposing its problems.

The crossbench senators have expressed doubts and said they wanted evidence. The evidence is in and it proves this program should not continue. If we can stop them voting for this bill we can stop cashless welfare becoming permanent.

Call these MPs and urge them against voting for the cashless debit card bill:

Rex Patrick, 08 8232 1144, 02 6277 3785

Jacqui Lambie, 03 6431 3112, 02 6277 3614

Stirling Griff, 08 8212 1409, 02 6277 3128

Rebekha Sharkie, 08 8398 5566, 02 6277 2113
