Celebrate Library Lovers’ Day

Published:

Sunshine Coast Libraries are celebrating Library Lovers' Day on Friday February 14 with morning tea, free chocolates and great prizes up for grabs.

Sunshine Coast Council Community Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said libraries were the best match-makers – the helpful staff will help you find the information, book, program, author or just about anything else you're looking for.

"People really do love their local library. It's a great place to relax, catch up on the latest news, learn more about technology or meet up with friends," Cr McKay said.

"Libraries also host a range of exciting events that showcase national and international authors and speakers.

"This year's Library Lovers' Day is all about connecting and honouring the relationship between Libraries and like-minded community members.

"There will be a Facebook competition on Friday February 14 that anyone can participate in, you don't even have to be a library member.

"You can also go into the draw to win some great prizes including wireless headphones, portable bluetooth speaker or a box of chocolates.

"It's all free and no registration is required, so come along and enjoy the morning tea celebrations at your local library from 10am on the day."

If you're not a member, Library Lovers' Day is a great time to join the library. There are more than 1500 new members joining the service each month.

Sunshine Coast Libraries have more than 400,000 items in their collection available for library card holders to borrow for free.

In 2019, more than 2.2 million items were borrowed from Sunshine Coast Libraries.

As well as books, our members are borrowing, downloading and streaming eBooks, audiobooks, movies, magazines and music. You can borrow and return items at any of our eight libraries and two mobile libraries across the region.
