Federal Member for Wide Bay, Llew O'Brien today announced more than $68,000 will be provided by the Coalition Government for advocacy and welfare services to veterans, serving members of the Australian Defence Force and their families, war widows and widowers.

"The Australian Government's Building Excellence in Support and Training (BEST) grants program enables local ex-service organisations to continue to provide help, advice and support to the veteran community," Mr O'Brien said.

"The BEST grants support ex-service organisations, making a real difference in the lives of veterans and ADF personnel, by providing essential services from a trusted source.

"The funds help pension and welfare officers to provide assistance to veterans, war widows and widowers, as well as current and former Defence members and their dependants, when lodging claims with the Department of Veterans' Affairs, or pursuing an appeal.

"The grants will be used to help fund salaries for trained advocates and pension staff, office supplies, computer equipment, internet access and other administrative needs," Mr O'Brien said.
