Every year ‘Coast Academy of Song and Dance’ stages a knockout Musical Theatre Production at the J Theatre, and this year is no exception! ‘ALICE’S ADVENTURES- The Musical’ is an explosion of colour, toe-tapping hit tunes, energetic dances, and larger than life characters! The students of CASD form a 100 strong cast with ages ranging from five to fifteen.

Principal Anna Quayle wrote the script based on Lewis Carroll’s classic novel ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’. She explains “I chose the story as there are so many fantastic characters in the book, with their own distinctive personalities. There were also so many opportunities to fill the story with hit songs like ‘We Will Rock You’- Queen; ‘One Call Away’-Charlie Puth, ‘Get the Party Started’ –Pink, ‘Think’- Aretha Franklin, and ‘Oh so Quiet’-Bjork.. Just to name a few! -We even have a synchronised swimming dance!”

The show also has a local twist to it, with a Noosa girl falling down a hole in the sand at Noosa Main Beach and a few other little Aussie surprises along the way.

Anna is extremely proud of all her students, every single one of them has their own speaking part, and the use of a microphone. “It’s a big job to organise and put on a show of this scale- a whole year of planning and preparation, even down to the finest detail, but once you try to fit 100 performers into a regional theatre, taking into account large sets, props, multiple costume changes and microphone changes, even the smallest detail is hugely important”.

With 10 years of professional performing experience herself, Anna is able to apply a lot of her know-how to her students, and the running of the CASD annual show. “This show is definitely the biggest we have ever put on- I am extremely proud of it and all the students- it’s going to just blow the audience away!”
