"We know this is a particularly challenging time for so many Australians, so we've made a significant investment to lower the cost of products in the areas that matter, when it matters," she said.

"We've launched a $5 rump steak 230g because we wanted customers to have a great eating experience while also getting more value at the checkout. It's a fantastic option that's great quality, 100% Australian beef with no added hormones which we know customers will love.

"At Coles, our farmers believe that good quality beef doesn't need added hormones and we're proud to still be the only national supermarket with 100% Aussie beef with no added hormones in our Coles fresh beef range."

Earlier this month, Coles slashed the price of 190 products helping to lower the cost of popular staple products at a time when many Australian families are doing it tough.

Prices of products on the chopping block included Steggles Chicken 1kg varieties by 45%, Nature's Gift dog food by up to 30%, Alpro yoghurt varieties by 14% and RSPCA approved whole chooks dropped to just $3.90.
