Construction has commenced on a new $5 million sports complex in Nirimba, the newest suburb in Stockland’s award-winning masterplanned Aura community on the Sunshine Coast.
Set to be completed in early 2021, the Nirimba Sports Complex will consist of four full-size rugby fields, four netball courts, two cricket fields with practice nets and shaded spectator seating.
Located next to the future Nirimba State Primary School, the seven and a half hectare sporting complex will be home to a range of future sporting teams. Lighting on select rugby fields and netball courts will offer a full service training and games facility.
Josh Sondergeld, Project Director, Residential Development QLD at Stockland, said the construction marked the next step in catering for the community’s growing health and wellbeing needs.
“Aura is committed to encouraging active lifestyles and offering a range of amenities to help residents of all ages,” Mr Sondergeld said.
“More than half of Aura’s residents say they feel healthier and more physically active since moving into the community, and with an average of 10 new families moving into Aura every week, the sports complex will be a very welcomed addition.
“Fast becoming a thriving health hub for the Sunshine Coast region, Aura’s delivered on a range of key infrastructure close to home – including the recently announced Baringa Town Centre extension which comprises of a state-of-the-art medical centre and family-owned swim school.”
Gavin Cameron of Aura Netball said the addition of four netball courts would enable increased local participation in the sport.
“The new courts will allow us to form new teams, which means more people can enjoy the health and social benefits of playing this fantastic team sport,” Mr Cameron said.
“We’re thrilled to make the Nirimba Sporting Complex our home ground, and look forward to officially moving in next year.”
The Nirimba Sports Complex will complement Aura’s growing range of bespoke health and wellbeing facilities, including the Baringa Sports Complex, which includes three soccer fields, and the Aura park trail – a network of 10 uniquely themed interconnected parks located throughout the community.
Aura’s 5,000 residents can also ride along the signature cycling veloway and kilometres of shared walking paths that link the community.
