It’s been a long season, but one of the most successful ever for the Coolum and District Netball Association. Twelve teams battled it out for the 2018 Coolum and District Netball Association Season Two Grand Finals on November 29.

Representative co-ordinator Megan Gale said it was a great night with exceptional sportsmanship displayed both on and off the court.

“Divisions 1, 2, 3a, 3b, 4 & 5 all competed for the coveted trophies and we had many of our Junior Umpires receive awards on the night. Congratulations to Abbi Weldon and Coby Gale for receiving their National C Badges and Amelia Aufderheide for receiving the Most Promising Junior Umpire,” Megan said.

Megan shared that Coolum Netball prides itself on their Umpire Mentor Program and it was wonderful to see so many juniors being awarded. After a year where the finals were played at such a high level and the representative teams achieved such great results, it’s a reminder of what can be achieved when local business supports its community.

“Without the support of local businesses such as Marcoola Community Bank branch of Bendigo Bank and our other sponsors we would not have the growth and development of the association and we certainly wouldn’t be able to maintain the high standard we have set ourselves,’ Megan added.

Mark Gielis from Marcoola Community Bank branch was on hand to present the trophies to the winners and runners up.  He said the branch is proud to play its part in assisting the development of so many young players.

“Returning banking profits to clubs just like Coolum and District Netball is what we’re all about,” Mark enthused.

“You can’t help but notice how bright the future of local netball is when you visit the club. We’ve been proud to support Coolum and District Netball for many years on a team level, along with their representative teams. The association is continuing to provide a great facility for young people in our community and we all look forward to seeing more it in the future,” he added.

Sadly, club stalwart Rae Jenkin announced that these grand finals would be her last as she decided to retire after many years of service. Rae has helped literally hundreds of local girls realise their netball dreams and will be greatly missed. To finish off a great night, Linley Marshall and Megan Gale were also awarded Life Membership to the club.

Season One kicks off in February. If you’d like to get involved in Coolum District Netball Association, visit http://www.coolum.qld.netball.com.au/  for more information about the Junior and Senior competitions.
