Dangerous driving incident, Gympie to Sippy Downs

Published:

Gympie detectives continue to investigate after a man drove from Gympie to Sippy Downs this afternoon in an alleged attempt to avoid police.

Around 1.15pm Wednesday, November 20 police attended a Rocks Road, Gympie address to execute a warrant.

It will be alleged the man fled in a dark coloured sedan baring false number plates. This vehicle failed to stop for police and a pursuit was commenced.

A tyre deflation device (road spikes) was successfully deployed on Rocks Road, near Glastonbury Creek Road, which deflated the two tyres.

Police will allege the vehicle drove dangerously and at excessive speed south along the Bruce Highway before getting caught up in traffic congestion at Sippy Downs, near the Sunshine Coast motorway off ramp.

The sedan collided with other vehicles before coming to a stop with police quickly exiting their vehicles and arresting the male driver and sole occupant.

Police will allege a search of the vehicle located a prohibited electric conductive device.

Investigations by Gympie detectives into today’s incidents are on-going.

The man has been denied police bail and is due to appear in the Gympie Magistrates Court tomorrow after being arrested on warrants for offences including armed robbery, wilful damage of a police vehicle, receiving tainted property, stealing, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, serious assault police and unlicensed driving.
