Community Entertainment Festivals & Events School Holidays

Often an event is billed as free but usually that just means free entry and once you are there you find yourself opening the wallet constantly.  But Christmas in Cooroy is a truly free event with a host of quirky entertainment, giveaways and activities all at absolute no cost!  The crowds that attend year after year attest they are absolutely wrapped that there is so much on offer for free, making Cooroy the place to be on the evenings of Friday 1 & Saturday 2 December!
The festive fun kicks off on Friday 1 December from 6.45pm with Light Up Cooroy where the turning on of the magnificent Studio Steel Christmas tree and snow flurries delight the crowds.  This event also includes a performance by the Four Corners Quartet and the launch of the QMP Shop Window Trail with about 20 businesses decorating their windows with Christmas displays that are a delight to behold.
The fun continues on Saturday 2 December from 4pm when Christmas in Cooroy kicks off.  A big crowd favourite is the Bendigo Bank Street Parade with 30 floats and community groups weaving up Maple Street decorated and looking absolutely fabulous. This year participants will decorate their floats in the theme of ‘Stories, Books & Authors’. There are sure to be some fabulous costumes and some splendid decorations.
For those who are competitive there’s also the Noosa to Hinterland Plumbing Group Great Santa Race which has cash prize money to be won. It’s free to watch the spectacle of about 50 Santa-suit clad runners sprinting up the main street but there is a $10 fee to compete which is donated to the Leukaemia Foundation. Entrants are provided with a suit to race in and must be 18 years or older to enter.
For kids that also have a competitive streak, there is the Cooroy Fish and Chips Santa Sack Races which are great fun and every child gets a prize.
There’s the East versus West Tug-of-War competition with The Shed @ Cooroy putting up an East Side team against Cooroy Computers West Side team. The East Side Tuggers have a strong list of wins under their belt but who will win this year?!
And as if that wasn’t enough, Santa Clause himself drops in to visit the children of Cooroy and give them all a sweet treat sponsored by Gelignite Jacks.
There is free rides including the Giant Slide, Cup and Saucer and Jumping Castle sponsored by Cooroy Rag; Mini 4wds and Animal Farm sponsored by Madill Holden & John Madill Toyota; a foam pit sponsored by Cooroy Legal Centre; free face painting sponsored by SPV Accounting, free popcorn sponsored by the Leather Doctor; and free ice creams by Fiona Winter Realty.
There is also entertainment throughout the evening on the Cooroy Supa IGA stage in Apex Park with Pineapple Crush, Noosa Concert Band and Smokin Mirrors and in the evening the Cooroy RSL Fireworks display will light up the sky, giving a truly magical display.
The only thing you pay for is if you want to buy something from a food or market stall, partake in a Christmas tipple at the bar sponsored by Cooroy Hotel, or buy a ticket in the fundraising raffle sponsored by Mower & ATV Solutions where you could win $3000 of Stihl equipment of your choice!
There is something for everyone at Christmas in Cooroy plus it has a fantastic community vibe and the whole town comes out to celebrate the start of the festive season so make sure you don’t miss out!  Grab your family and friends and head over to Apex Park from 4pm on Saturday 2 December to enjoy what Cooroy has to offer.
