Federal Member for Wide Bay, Llew O'Brien today welcomed the quarterly payment of $4,351,467 which has been made to six local Councils in the Wide Bay electorate under the Australian Government's Financial Assistance Grants program.

"Wide Bay Councils will receive a total of $34,243,407 this financial year to support their local communities," Mr O'Brien said.

"This is Federal Government assistance supporting Wide Bay's councils to fund a wide range of local projects and services to improve the amenity and vibrancy of local communities.

"The funding can be used for transport, tourism, health, sports and recreation, environment and community development programs, according to the Council's priorities," Mr O'Brien said.

Minister for Regional Development, Territories and Local Government John McVeigh said the program was a prime example of the Coalition Government's commitment to supporting the efforts of local government to deliver the services and facilities their communities need.

"Under the program, the Government is providing local governments with a total of $2.4 billion in untied grants in 2018-19," Dr McVeigh said.

"I am looking forward to seeing our local councils target local priorities with this funding, along with additional funding provided by the Coalition Government under the Roads to Recovery, Black Spot and Bridges Renewal programs," said Dr McVeigh.
