From Death Valley to the Sunshine Coast – elite runner to take on Blackall 100.

Dean Karnazes Ultra Marathonman

In a coup for event organisers, elite ultra marathon runner and NY Times best-selling author, Dean Karnazes will compete in this year's Blackall 100 event.

Hailed by Men's Fitness magazine as one of the fittest men on the planet and by TIME Magazine as one of the "Top 100 Most Influential People in the world'', Karnazes has pushed his body and mind to inconceivable limits.

Among his many accomplishments, Dean has run 350 continuous miles, foregoing sleep for three nights. He has run across Death Valley in 120 degree (Fahrenheit) temperatures, and run a marathon to the South Pole in negative 40 degrees. On ten different occasions, he has run a 200-mile relay race solo, racing alongside teams of 12.

His most recent endeavour was running 50 marathons, in all 50 US states, in 50 consecutive days, finishing with the New York Marathon, which he ran in three hours flat.

Tourism and Events Portfolio Councillor Jason O'Pray said Karnazes will create a terrific buzz at the event which is taking place on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Walk on October 19.

"We're thrilled that Dean Karnazes will be competing in this year's Blackall 100," Cr O'Pray said.

Participation in this gruelling event has grown steadily since it began in 2014 and it has been recognised for its toughness and technical trail, being awarded the Australian National Long Course Championships in 2017.

Organised by Run Queensland, the event has become a destination race for trail runners from all over the world.
