A new strategic plan will outline growth opportunities for Maryborough Showgrounds and Equestrian Park, with help from a $15,000 grant from the Liberal National Government, Member for Wide Bay Llew O'Brien announced today.
"This grant through the Building Better Regions Fund will help the Fraser Coast Regional Council identify ways to maximise use of the Maryborough Showgrounds and ensure it is a vibrant community facility, contributing to our local economy," Mr O'Brien said.
"The five-year strategic plan will serve as a guide to future investment decisions and help identify opportunities to provide sustainable economic and social benefits to the Fraser Coast region."
The Fraser Coast Regional Council's strategic plan is one of eight projects in Wide Bay to benefit from a share of $2,776,152 under Round 3 of the Federal Liberal and Nationals Government's highly successful Building Better Regions Fund.
Mr O'Brien said the Liberal and Nationals Government's investment in projects like the Maryborough Showgrounds and Equestrian Park strategic plan would boost the Wide Bay economy and ensure it continued to grow into the future.
"This project will provide ongoing and long-term economic benefit by boosting the utility of Maryborough Showgrounds, which is a great outcome for the Wide Bay community," he said.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the Liberal and Nationals Government is committed to ensuring Australia's regions remain strong, resilient and prosperous in the long term.
"We are supporting our regions through investing in important local infrastructure, as well as great community-building and planning initiatives under the Building Better Regions Fund and other Government priorities such as the Regional Growth Fund and our decentralisation agenda," Mr McCormack said.
"In this round we are also investing more than $70 million in regional tourism infrastructure, to support those many regional communities that rely on tourism to bolster their economy.
"We have seen fantastic outcomes from the first two rounds, and today's announcement continues our commitment to unlocking the economic potential of regional Australia and ensuring our regions continue to thrive."
