Golfing for a cause

Published:

On Friday 30th August, 95 social golfers gathered at the Twin Waters Golf Club for the Nomads Golf 5th Annual Charity Day for a great day on the green while supporting local charity SunnyKids.

Nomads Golf has representation across Sydney North, Sydney South, Perth, Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast. The local Nomads, captained by Geoff Cannings, are a group of around 80+ social golfers who play a monthly event on the beautiful Sunshine Coast golf courses and in the process raise funds to help support local charities and young aspiring golfers.

The National President Mark Howard-Browne flew up from Sydney to support the Sunshine Coast branch’s event and take a swing at what is internationally recognised as one of the top six resort courses in Australia.

“The Nomads’ purpose is ‘through golf helping others’ and we have been fortunate enough to have delivered a long tradition of successful charity days,” explained Mark HowardBrowne.

SunnyKids was delighted to be the recipient of the Nomads’ 2019 charity golf day.

“We are grateful to the Nomads Golfers for supporting SunnyKids so that we can in turn provide much-needed help to more at-risk children and families in our community,” shared Chris Turner.

SunnyKids provides a social and emotional safety net for thousands of children and their families through their award-winning “Virtual Village” practice model, partnering with health, education and child protection agencies to keep kids safe.

SunnyKids also offers up to 8,000 nights of emergency accommodation, as well as domestic violence and referral counselling, each and every year to local families in need.

“Unfortunately, there are 5,000 children identified on the Sunshine Coast each year who need support and so the more help and donations we receive from groups, individuals and businesses on the Sunshine Coast, the more children we can reach and assist,” added Chris.

The golfers finished the day with full stomachs and smiles on their faces after their great day in the sun was followed by a presentation dinner and their generous funds donated to SunnyKids.
