Upcoming works have been scheduled at Dulong Quarry between February and July which may result in an increase in truck movements along major connector roads around Dulong, Highworth and Nambour, such as Sherwell Road and Nambour-Mapleton Road.
Council’s number one priority is safety which is why council is providing advanced notification to residents and motorists travelling in these areas.
Mid-February to mid-March
Construction and drainage works will take place at the quarry to upgrade the entrance to improve sight distance for trucks entering and exiting the quarry. These works will also improve on-site drainage.
March to early May
Preparation works will be conducted for future rock blasts.
Trucks will remove waste from the Dulong Quarry site, travelling along Dulong School Road and Sherwell Road on weekdays for approximately eight weeks.
May to July
Rock blasting will extract basalt rock from the quarry.
A notification will be issued to local residents and community groups prior to this taking place.
The basalt rock extracted from Dulong Quarry will be transported by truck to Image Flat Quarry for further processing. Typically this product is used to produce asphalt for use on local roads maintained by council.
Council appreciates the community’s patience while these works are underway.
