This one drives Noely insane everytime she hears it used LOL!

The use of the term "HITS" when indicating the popularity of a website is not one that My Sunshine Coast advocates.  A HIT is a request(s) to a server from a webpage.  This could be the page address plus any graphics on the page etc...  Therefore ONE person looking at a page with a lot of graphics (or other server requests) could result in many HITS.

This term HITS was used many years ago when web pages were simpler and can be misleading when talking about the popularity of a modern website.  The only time the term HITS is commonly accepted, is in the case of one of item, such as a video on a site and equals the amount of times that video is downloaded (as in youtube).  The preferred term to indicate popularity is VISITORS.

Example of a one month snapshot of www.mysunshinecoast.com.au perfectly illustrates the massive difference between Hits & Vistors:
July 2010 - 120,000 VISITORS for the month
July 2010 -- 3,300,000 Million Hits for the month
1 Visitor equated to 27 Hits
