I can't vote – so I need your help

Published:

My name is Doha. I'm 17 and I've spent the last few months organising the School Strike for Climate Action in Adelaide. It's the best way I know of getting our politicians to actually take climate change seriously – that means no new coal, and a climate policy that will make a difference.

I can't vote yet. So, in order to make our politicians hear us, we need these strikes to be HUGE! There are more than 50 happening across the country and everyone is welcome.

I'm asking you, to please join me in striking for the climate on Friday. I know that the best way to make sure people will turn up to an event is to have them make a plan to get there ahead of time. Want to take the bus? Or maybe drive? What time will you have to leave? Let's make a plan!

Will you make your plans to join the climate strike this Friday? Click here to find the nearest event to you and invite some friends or colleagues to join you.

I decided to get involved in the climate strikes because our politicians are so far removed from reality, they literally don't have a climate plan! While the world is in a climate crisis and people's lives are being ruined by drought, bushfires, cyclones and heatwaves, they're still investing in the very thing making this whole situation worse: coal.

I won't sit idly by and let leaders with destructive and out of date views make decisions for me and the rest of my generation – who will pay the price for their inaction.

So I've joined with thousands of other students and supporters to demand climate action. Together, we can send politicians the deafening message that we demand real climate leadership.

Make your plan to join the climate strikes now and invite three friends to join you.

Thanks for joining me,
Doha

PS – Want to do more? Here's three more things you can do right now:
  1. Put up a poster at work or in your street, you can download posters and flyers here.
  2. Have a conversation with 3 people about why you are going and invite them to join you. There are resources for having powerful conversations here.
  3. Organise a workplace morning tea to talk about the Climate Strike and why you're attending.
