A more versatile vehicle and improved outreach services are part of the proposed plans to adapt Noosa’s Mobile Library Service.
With the current semi-trailer nearing the end of its life after 14 years, the proposal is to introduce a cost-effective, flexible mobile library vehicle late next year, complemented by a range of book kiosks and new programs.
Community Services Director Kerri Contini said the improved services would meet the changing needs of our community.
“What people want from libraries is changing and the proposed service model ensures Council can continue to provide quality library services to all parts of the shire,” she said.
The fully accessible new vehicle would better handle our rural roads, includes an alfresco area to meet friends and would continue to travel around the shire on a weekly schedule. As an added bonus it would be able to be booked by organisations and other localities who want a special visit.
A new Community Outreach Service forms part of the proposed improvements, with two library “book-vending” kiosks providing 24/7 access at Pomona and Peregian Beach and the introduction of a suite of library programs and workshops hosted at community locations throughout the shire.
“Libraries are a crucial part of our community, fostering lifelong learning and connecting residents of all ages,
“We want to open up the service to more people, improve access to information and technology,” Ms Contini said.
To help deliver a library outreach service that suits the community, residents are being asked for their thoughts on the proposed service and what resources and programs could be included.
Senior Library staff will be on hand to talk to residents during the first hour of every mobile library location visit from December 1 to December 5.
The mobile library locations are:
- Tuesday 1 Dec: 10-11am Noosa Junction; 2-3pm Sunrise Beach
- Wednesday 2 Dec: 10-11am Cooran
- Thursday 3 Dec: 10-11am Kin Kin; 1-2pm Boreen Point
- Friday 4 Dec: 1-2pm Peregian Beach
- Saturday 5 Dec: 9-10am – Pomona
