International marketing award recognises Sunshine Coast smarts

Published:

Sunshine Coast Council has proven it is not only the best in Australia, but is now also recognised as one of the best in the world, after winning an international economic development award in the United States today.

The International Economic Development Council (IEDC) awarded council the Promotional Video Award for its multimedia marketing of the Sunshine Coast International Broadband Network, at the 2019 International Excellence in Economic Development Awards in Indianapolis, USA.

While council has won multiple national economic development awards, this is the first international economic development award it has submitted and won.

Economic Development Portfolio Councillor Stephen Robinson said it was a great achievement for the region to be recognised for doing world-class work, and showcased the work being done to implement the Regional Economic Development Strategy, especially the Sunshine Coast International Broadband Network.

“Winning this award has elevated council from being recognised nationally to now also internationally in the field of economic development, and is a further demonstration of why we were recently announced as one of the global Top7 Intelligent Communities. This recognition continues to demonstrate that our region is delivering world-class products and services,” Cr Robinson said.

“Council’s multimedia campaign was delivered across Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, China and Japan last year and featured some great engaging video with 3D animation in three languages.

“We designed and implemented it to attract new business investments into our healthy, smart, creative region to drive more career opportunities for our residents from our region-shaping projects.”

The campaign generated 70 new investment leads and was part of council’s ongoing Investment Attraction Program, which last financial year was responsible for an annual recurring economic impact to the economy of $255 million and supported more than 1000 full-time jobs.

The campaign was a joint effort of Sunshine Coast Council and local marketing business Macneil & Co.

“Our thanks to Casey Macneil and her team. It’s great to have a local company of their calibre in our region to work with us on these national and international award-winning campaigns,” Cr Robinson said.
