Jobs the focus of Palaszczuk Government's $300,000 multicultural grants program

Published:

Applications are now open for projects that promote pathways to jobs for people from culturally diverse backgrounds, to share in $300,000 through the Celebrating Multicultural Queensland program.

Multicultural Affairs Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said the grants were designed to build welcoming communities across Queensland.

“It can be incredibly tough for Queenslanders from culturally diverse backgrounds to access all the opportunities a community might provide,” Mr Hinchliffe said.

“Which is why this program is so important, because it funds projects that helps people and communities connect and feel included.

“We are striving to build a more inclusive, harmonious and united Queensland and the Celebrating Multicultural Queensland program does this by promoting increased community participation, economic independence, inclusion or access to opportunities in the local community.

“I strongly encourage community groups, not-for-profit organisations, sporting clubs, youth groups, P&C associations, multicultural organisations and local governments to apply for this year’s funding.”

Eligible organisations can apply for up to $40,000 for each project.

In 2018-19, projects included the Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce Incorporated’s Business Connect – Skilled Migrants and Refugees; AFL Queensland’s Pathway to Engagement; Community Sports Mentoring and Coaching’s Multicultural Sports Mentoring and Coaching Support Initiative; Multicultural Community Centre’s DGSB – Developing and Growing Small Business – Program; and The Creche and Kindergarten Association’s Building Community Leaders in Biloela.

Applications close on Friday 6 December, 2019.
