Students across the Kawana Electorate are set to swelter through another Queensland summer after Annastacia Palaszczuk ignored the LNP's call to install air-conditioning in local schools.
But while Kawana Electorate students and teachers feel the heat, the Palaszczuk Labor Government has announced that it will pay for air-con in 25 schools in Hervey Bay, Maryborough and Bundaberg.
Member for Kawana, Jarrod Bleijie MP said Labor's plan to air-condition some schools and not others was a cynical political stunt.
"The LNP will air-condition every single state school classroom in Queensland," Mr Bleijie said.
"Labor is dudding teachers and kids in the Kawana Electorate, while paying for air-con in other areas.
"It's not fair on our kids and it is damaging their education.
"Every parent knows that kids can't learn if they're working in a sweltering classroom.
"The LNP knows that cool kids are smart kids.
"We will treat all Queensland kids the same, no matter where they live."
LNP Leader Deb Frecklington said Labor should be helping all schools.
"Air-conditioning every state school classroom is a big investment, but our kids' education is worth it," Ms Frecklington said.
"Labor needs to follow the LNP's lead and commit to air-conditioning every state school.
"Hard-working parent volunteers in the Kawana Electorate shouldn't have to fundraise to pay for air-con. "
Ms Frecklington said the LNP's plan for education would also include de-cluttering the curriculum, allowing teachers to focus on the core skills of reading, writing and maths.
Most of Queensland's NAPLAN test results went backwards this year.
