The Palaszczuk Labor Government must urgently guarantee that none of the Virgin Australia job losses announced today will be made in Queensland, the LNP said today.
LNP Deputy Leader and Shadow Treasurer Tim Mander said the Palaszczcuk Labor Government owed it to Queenslanders to protect local jobs after it used $200m of taxpayers' money to buy a stake in the airline.
"I am desperately sorry for the thousands of airline workers who are losing their jobs through no fault of their own," Mr Mander said.
"As a part-owner of Virgin Australia, the Palaszczuk Labor Government must guarantee that no Queenslander will lose their job.
"Annastacia Palaszczuk chose to gamble $200 million of taxpayers' money when the government didn't need to.
"Now Labor must prove the investment was worth it by ensuring no Queenslanders lose their jobs.
"The LNP has always supported a second airline to protect Queensland jobs and deliver regional services.
"It would be a bitter pill for Queenslanders to swallow if taxpayers' money ends up being used to fund the redundancy cheques of Queensland workers."
