Labor's on-going rail fail hits new low

Liberal National Party Leader Deb Frecklington said after 18 months Labor's rail fail had hit a new low, with revelations only five net new drivers had been hired and that they are only driving trains 29.6% of their time at work.

"Today in Question Time we asked Labor's Transport Minister about the QR driver shortage, timetable cuts and driver productivity and he couldn't answer a single question," Ms Frecklington said.

"We now have a traffic congestion crisis due to Labor because when the trains don't run, the roads get clogged.

"It is a complete slap in the face to Queenslanders who rely on trains to get to and from work that there are still 470 fewer services a week and no sign of the end of the rail fail.

"Despite the Minister claiming in the CityTrain Response Unit Report that the driver recruitment is now open to external recruitment, we all know that the unions are still controlling who QR can hire as train drivers.

"Even more shockingly the report, revealed that QR driver productivity has dropped to 29.6% meaning that over seventy per cent of the time QR drivers are being paid, they're not driving a train.

"Annastacia Palaszczuk and her incompetent Transport Minister need to come clean with Queenslanders and tell them the truth over the rail fail."

LNP Shadow Transport Minister Steve Minnikin said Annastacia Palaszczuk needed to take responsibility for QR's failures.

"Since the rail fail began in October 2016, Labor only managed to only recruit five train drivers in the first year since the Strachan report was handed down, while in the same time they have gone through three Transport Ministers, no wonder our trains are a debacle," Mr Minnikin said.

"Why is Labor continuing to pay thousands of dollars in overtime to drivers when productivity is dropping, trains aren't showing up on time and there are fewer services?

"It's such a shame that Brisbane trains have gone from a 96% on time running performance under the LNP to 470 fewer services per week and the nightmare we have now under Annastacia Palaszczuk.

"The trains have all but stopped at the station, while Labor's gravy train continues to roll on through."
