Learn to drive a steam loco

NOTE: This article is older than 12 months

Every “boy” ,  and many girls,  of all ages want to drive a steam locomotive !

Now those aspiring “boys” and “girls” have the chance to fulfil their dreams at the Sunshine Coast Railway Modellers Society in Nambour.

The Society run the miniature railway in the Miniature Railway Park in Florence St  Nambour and are looking for new members who can become involved in every  aspect of operating a passenger carrying railway.

Members can assist in whichever department they are interested in so this could be working on the track or carriages or  locomotive maintenance or selling tickets on the Society’s train running days.

Members will also be taught rail safety and eventually how to drive the Society’s  locomotives leading up to driving the steam engines.

The Society meet on the 3rd Sunday of each month to prepare the trains and track for the Running Day which is on the 4th Sunday of every month.

In addition there are “Members Only” days for Members  to ‘play trains’ on the Society’s extensive miniature railway facility plus “Invitation Days”

for member’s  of other miniature railway clubs to come to the Nambour track with their locos.

Those interested in possibly joining the Society and assisting with the operation of a real passenger carrying railway should contact the Society and initially come along and see how the Society operates.

There will be a special “Open Day” on SUNDAY 17 MARCH 2019 from 10.30am until 1pm  at the railway in Florence St Park Nambour .

Potential members will be very welcome to come and see the Society’s trains and extensive dual gauge track.
