Llew O'Brien and Minister Buchholz get the '101' in defensive driving

Published:

Assistant Minister for Road Safety, Scott Buchholz visited Roadcraft Driver Education facility in Gympie this week, alongside Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O'Brien to get the '101' on defensive driving.

Minister Buchholz said Roadcraft Driver Education, which is entering their 40th year of operations this year, can help motorists become safer and more aware by knowing, understanding and applying the key principles of low risk, defensive driving.

"I was impressed with the programs that Roadcraft provides, especially to younger drivers just starting out on their L and P plates.

"It's not about just preventing crashes; it is about giving students a balanced blend of theoretical and practical training to become lifelong safe drivers.

"I would like to thank Roadcraft CEO Sharlene Makin and her skilled educators for the work they do to make our roads safer," Mr Buchholz said.

Local Member and Chair of the Australian Parliament's Joint Select Committee on Road Safety, Llew O'Brien has a deep connection to Roadcraft.

"Roadcraft is an iconic community-based road safety organisation in Gympie.

"My association with Roadcraft extends from the time that I was a police officer, and I'm pleased to continue my support and advocacy for them in the Parliament and throughout the road safety community.

"Sharlene Makin and Glen Jocumsen and the very professional and committed team at Roadcraft work with local schools and businesses to keep them and other drivers safe on the roads," Mr O'Brien said.

As part of the Local and State Government Road Safety Package announced in the 2019-20 Budget, the Australian Government is investing an additional $2.2 billion to improve safety on our roads.
