LNP rules out bail houses in Queensland

An LNP Government will put Queenslanders safety first, closing down Labor's failed suburban bail houses.

Liberal National Party Shadow Attorney-General David Janetzki said the LNP would always put victims ahead of criminals.

"Labor's band aid solution of moving violent young offenders into suburban bail houses has been a complete debacle since the get go," Mr Janetzki said.

"We've seen offenders escape from bail houses, go on crime sprees and millions of dollars spent on these houses.

"We have had 35 critical incidents in these bail houses in Townsville alone since being introduced in January 2018.

"Queenslanders are sick of being treated as second rate citizens under Labor, who are putting offenders first.

"We've listened to Queenslanders, who are terrified of having violent offenders living next door, and this is why we have ruled out suburban bail houses.

"Under an LNP Government, young offenders will be kept in youth detention facilities and not allowed to run riot in the community.

"These bail houses aren't good for community safety and certainly are not helping to rehabilitate our young offenders.

"The LNP never has, and never will support housing young offenders in Queensland suburbs."

Mr Janetzki said even the Palaszczuk Labor Government was backing away from their failed policy.

"Last week in Estimates, the Minister for Youth Justice announced the Government was pushing back the rollout of five new bail houses," Mr Janetzki said.

"This is just more proof that Labor's failed policy isn't working and now they are trying to walk away from the youth bail house strategy.

"These aren't bail houses, these are fail houses.

"Youth justice is a sensitive and complex policy area and its' been three years of complete chaos under Annastacia Palaszczuk.

"Young offenders need to be held accountable for their actions. The revolving door of youth justice needs to stop.

"The LNP will always put community safety first."
