After another amazing turnout last year, the highly anticipated Marcoola Rocks Australia Day celebration is sure to draw big crowds on January 26.

From 10.00am-6.00pm, celebrations will take place in and around the club and locals are excited about what is planned for 2018. Thousands are expected to enjoy our national day on one of the most picturesque beaches on the coast.

From small beginnings in 2009, Marcoola Rocks has grown to become one of the highlights on the Sunshine Coast events calendar. To make sure the Australia Day celebrations keep getting better, Marcoola Community Bank branch of Bendigo Bank has committed to the event again, over and above the bank’s current sponsorship arrangements with the club.

Surf club president David McLean, said the club is deeply grateful for the sponsorship from its local Community Bank and says Marcoola Rocks is event for the whole region.

“Our Marcoola Community Bank has been with us since day one with this event and we’re just thrilled they continue to support what we’ve created here. We drew strong crowds last year and we know we’re going to provide a great place for everyone to come and celebrate all that’s great about being an Aussie,” he added.

All proceeds from the event this year will go towards the further development of the youth program and the purchase of additional surf lifesaving gear and equipment within the club.

“The 2018 celebration will be a great community event. There will be a 2.5km, 5km and 10km fun run, Aussie animals, rides, all sorts of great food and drink stalls and entertainment will be free all day. Throw in raffles and prizes and it becomes Marcoola’s biggest local celebration for the year. We know our community will join in and come down and enjoy the day and swim at our fully patrolled beach,” David said.

Marcoola Community Bank branch manager, Kerryn Vincart said she loves how North Shore locals have made this community event the centrepiece of their Australia Day celebrations.

“Our Marcoola Community Bank just loves sponsoring this event. It was a local idea for the good of our community from the very beginning and we’re delighted to support Marcoola Rocks again in 2018. Rain, hail or shine, festivities will be on in full force and we look forward to celebrating our national day with this great club,” Kerryn said.
