Mayor welcomes Beckmans Road and Six Mile Creek Bridge funds

Published:

Council today welcomed a $27.5 million dollar funding announcement from the state government to fix two major Noosa road headaches.

It includes $9.5 million to upgrade the intersection of Beckmans Road and Cooroy-Noosa Road – the first stage of the long-awaited Tewantin Bypass project.

The state has also committed $18 million to upgrade the Six Mile Creek Bridge on Pomona-Kin Kin Road.

Mayor Clare Stewart congratulated Noosa MP Sandy Bolton for her years of lobbying the state, together with Council, to see work begin.

“Congratulations to our local member Sandy Bolton on securing this significant funding for Noosa Shire,” the Mayor said.

“The monies will provide much needed infrastructure for our region and improve safety on our roads.”

In 2000, the state agreed to build the Tewantin Bypass in return for Council taking on responsibility for David Low Way and sections of other feeder roads, as well as building Walter Hay Drive and Eenie Creek Road.

“Council has fulfilled its commitments, so it’s great to see the state give work on the first stage of the Tewantin bypass a much-needed green light.”

The Mayor said the new two-lane, flood-resilient bridge to replace the current structure on Pomona-Kin Kin Road would greatly improve safety for hinterland motorists.

“We look forward to seeing work on both of these projects begin soon.”
