Mooloolaba is packed with family fun these holidays

Published:

We all love Mooloolaba’s beautiful beaches and buzzing eateries and shopping, but at this time of year there are even more opportunities to get out and enjoy the great region.

Make sure you add some of these events into the family planner so you don’t miss out.

Cinema in the Sand returns this year to Mooloolaba Beach in front of “The Loo with a View” from sunset (approximately 6.30pm). Bring the family, friends, a blanket and a picnic and enjoy these entertaining holiday flicks from December 14-January 25 (schedule attached).

Don’t miss the Mooloolaba Sunset Markets to finish off your Christmas shopping under the stars, grab some great street food and shop for fantastic locally made products at this family friendly event suitable for everyone. December 12 and 19 and January 2, 9, 16 and 23, from 5-9pm, on Mooloolaba Esplanade.

If you prefer an in-store experience and want to head to The Wharf Mooloolaba Thursdays-Sundays 11am-4pm then head to Flavours of the Sunshine Coast co-op store where you can sample local products and purchase great Sunshine Coast Christmas presents or make your own hampers. Why not grab a local barbecue or picnic pack from the store and head down the beach with the family to enjoy too? Keep an eye on the Flavours facebook page to ensure you don’t miss any of the great holiday workshops, like cooking classes for the kids and events for the grown-ups!

Division 4 Councillor John Connolly said he was looking forward to enjoying the Christmas lights this festive season in Mooloolaba.

“Grab your tinnie or canoe and hit the wet stuff to see the extraordinary light displays on the water each night between December 2 and 30. Every year the waterfront properties in Mooloolaba, Minyama and Buddina put on a spectacular Christmas lights display, which are really only visible from the water and are a great activity to enjoy on a summer evening,” Cr Connolly said.

“If you want to join in the fun, you can decorate your own boat or enjoy from the land the  Mooloolaba Yacht Club's Mooloolaba Christmas Boat Parade, on December 14, when people put their prides and joys in the waves. I head down and join throngs of spectators along the shores of the Mooloolah River and Kawana Waters canal to watch on in awe at the magnificent Christmas decorated watercraft. I’d suggest taking the family to vantage points at Charles Clarke Park, The Wharf, Penny Lane and La Balsa.

“There are prizes for the best-dressed boy and girl at each of these vantage points too so get your thinking caps on and get creative in the lead-up. You have to be in it to win it.”

While the kids are still excited about all the boats, you can impress them with the sheer size of the cruise ships that dock off Mooloolaba beach. Find the schedule here https://teamsunshinecoast.com/cruise-ships/. Then once the sun sets, marvel at the solar-powered Norfolk pine Christmas tree at the Brisbane Road roundabout along the Esplanade. And there’s no need to stress over parking, there is plenty available for everyone.
