Council has approved more than $140,000 in Community Project Grants to help support 22 community groups across five categories – environment, programs, events, equipment and infrastructure.

The latest round of grants supports a range of projects, including installing safer flooring at the Pomona Meals on Wheels, implementing a new bore-fed irrigation system at the Tewantin-Noosa Cricket Club, and upgrading drainage at the Noosa Australian Football Club to improve the playing surface.

Carbon emission reduction efforts have also been recognised, with the Cooroy Future Group securing funding to install environmentally friendly LED lighting in the gallery spaces of Cooroy Butter Factory Arts Centre. The Noosa Tennis Club has also received a grant to do the same on two of their courts.

Events including Noosa Anywhere Theatre, the Noosa Rainbow Festival, Noosa Open Studios, the Noosa International Film Festival and the French Film Festival also received funding, as well as the Electric Vehicle Expo and Cycling Workshops.

Mayor Tony Wellington said Council was pleased to be able to support a wide range of quality community initiatives.

“My fellow Councillors are generally well connected with our many community groups,” the Mayor said. “As Councillors, we understand that community organisations provide immeasurably to Noosa residents’ quality of life. We are blessed in this shire to have so many wonderful volunteers.”

“Council is therefore proud to offer financial support to deserving groups who work tirelessly on behalf of their community. This is one way that Council continues to invest in the social capital of our wonderful Shire.”

The next round of Community Project Grants will open late February 2019.

Successful projects will be delivered over the year following 1 July 2019.
