State Member of Parliament for Buderim – Steve Dickson MP – is set for a dunking in cold water when he officially opens the inaugural School Fete at Brightwater State School on Saturday 26th August. The event is known as Star Fest 1.
In addition to opening the event, Steve has perhaps foolishly agreed to be the first ‘volunteer’ to sit on the Dunk Tank which looks set to be one of the most popular side stalls. He will be ‘at risk’ for half an hour as contestants aim to hit a target with enough force to send him dropping a metre into deep water.
Following on in the “wet seat’ will be Councillor Christian Dickson and then many of the teachers of the school who are sure to face a long line of students looking forward to dropping them into the wet!
The event will also feature a rides, a performance stage, food court, sideshow alley, a cent auction and numerous stalls selling goods such as plants, cakes, books, games and much more. Face painting and a craft stall are also going to be on offer. Classes throughout the Prep to Grade 6 school have paired up to each run a stall.
There will also be a free prize draw based on the number on your programme for which Steve has donated the star prize. The draw will be made just before the close of the show. To win one of the prizes you will have to be in attendance at the time of the draw.
Brightwater State School originally opened in 2012 with just 240 students. Today that number has risen to nearly one thousand. It is this growth that has made it possible to take on such a challenging event with many of the parents of the students volunteering their time to help out. The event takes place from 10am ‘til 4pm on Saturday 26th August and is open to everyone – not just families with children at the school.
