Netball in the Hinterland will continue to go from strength to strength with the new clubhouse at Victory park in Woombye, which has been opened today (February 3, 2020).
In partnership with the Nambour and Districts Netball Association, Sunshine Coast Council Mayor Mark Jamieson and Councillor Jenny McKay were delighted to unveil the new $590,000 clubhouse.
Mayor Jamieson said the new Victory Park Clubhouse is a great example of how the aspirations of a tight-knit community can be achieved through the combination of hard work, initiative and collaboration with Council.
“Our Council has worked with the Woombye community and the Nambour and District Netball Association to come up with a solution for this site that will stand the test of time,” Mayor Jamieson said.
“I have no doubt that this new clubhouse will benefit our local netballers for many years to come.
“With the challenges from the previous use of the site as a landfill, there were plenty of hurdles involved to achieve the rebuild and we knew it would not be a straightforward project.
“But what has been delivered is a true testament to determination, goodwill and perseverance.
“The new building, which was completed in three months and fully complies with State legislative requirements for construction on a closed landfill site.
Division 5 Councillor Jenny McKay was excited to see the completion of this project and said she was thrilled about the clubhouse’s many new features.
“With its new insulated roof over the raised concrete common area and grandstand seating, the clubhouse now provides a sun-safe area for patrons to enjoy hours of netball fun,” Cr McKay said.
“This has truly been a community effort, with significant financial contributions coming from both the Nambour Netball Association, our Division 5 budget and of course council itself.
“The collaboration and preparedness to get in and roll the sleeves up to get the job done has been here in spades, which is not surprising, given the “give everything a go” spirit that is well and truly alive in Woombye.
“I’m so pleased the whole community will be able to enjoy this upgraded space in all its glory.”
President of the Nambour and Districts Netball Association Matthew Lusk echoed Cr McKay’s enthusiasm and was pleased to see the community come together to celebrate the clubhouse’s re-opening.
“Our new netball clubhouse is now complete and we couldn’t be more proud of, or happy with this result,” Mr Lusk said.
“The safety of our netball community is paramount to the Nambour and Districts Netball Association and we can now all take comfort knowing what thorough work has been done to ensure our new clubhouse complies with all regulations, and that the old landfill will no longer impact us.
“We’re also excited with the design and update of the space; it’s wonderful to have accessibility for everyone and the latest technology in place.
“With the clubhouse complete, we’re officially ready to welcome players, their families and fans back to Nambour, ready for another great season of netball!”
This project’s completion marks the final phase of multiple upgrades to the Nambour and Districts Netball Association’s Victory Park Clubhouse, with resurfaced courts and upgraded drainage at the facility completed in April 2017.
