Cooroy Community Kindergarten had some generous visitors last week.

Over the years, the Cooroy Community Bank Branch of Bendigo Bank has worked with the kindy on small improvement projects designed to make time there even more enjoyable for the kids. From a new playground to a new recycling system, a compost tumbler and frog pond, the sponsored projects have helped the children discover how to support our environment.

This week, there was a celebration to mark the latest addition to the outdoor play space - a shade sail hangs over the much-loved swing area in the playground. Diana Markovits is director of Cooroy Community Kindergarten and she said the playground equipment would previously become too hot for the children to use, being exposed to the direct sun.

“This has made such a difference for our children,” Diana said.

“We’re so excited about this addition and we can’t thank the Cooroy Community Bank branch and the Butler family for their generosity. The play space is now enjoyed much more often and enables us to adhere to the Sun Protection Policy keeping our children and staff safe from the sun’s harmful effects throughout the year,” she added.

Being a nature and play based centre, Diana went on to share that the more opportunities provided for outdoor physical play only benefits the children by keeping them active.

“Our swing area is a favorite place for the children and this sponsorship has allowed us to plan for projects above and beyond what we could normally budget for. The support has seen us get involved in sustainable projects that celebrate our environment and get the children learning about them too,” Diana said.

The Cooroy Community Kindergarten has a long history in town. Established in 1955, it’s been in its current position on Maple Street since 1964.

Cooroy Community Bank branch manager, Simone Flavelle said the bank’s relationship with the kindy continues to be a great fit for both parties.

“It was a real treat to attend the opening of the shade sail, and as our branches in Cooroy and Pomona continue to grow and we’re delighted to support great initiatives like this. The more people bank with us, the more we can give back. It was great to see the children having fun and just being healthy Aussie kids enjoying the outdoors,” Simone said.
