You still have time to make sure an inspiring woman you know gets the recognition she deserves – but you need to get your nomination in quick!

Nominations for the 2017 Sunshine Coast Inspiring Women Awards close on 27 January 2017.

Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson is looking for nominations for  women who volunteer their time in the not-for-profit sector and use their skills to encourage and support others.

“I’m sure we all know an amazing women who is dedicated to supporting others in the local community and I want to encourage you to nominate them for an award,” Ms Simpson said.

“As part of International Women’s Day, I am keen to acknowledge and encourage the many women who use their time and skills to help and support others.

“Volunteers are the back-bone of the many sporting groups, charities and community organisations which help to build a more vibrant and connected community and many of them are women, who often work quietly behind the scenes to make things happen.”

Nominations are sought for the following categories:

  •  Community Leadership Award – sponsored by Think Money
  •  Community Volunteer Award – sponsored by White’s IGA
  •  Young Leader Award – sponsored by Suncoast Christian College
  •  Carer Award – sponsored by Sundale

To nominate please go to www.fionasimpson.com.au or contact the Maroochydore Electorate Office on 5406 7100.

Ms Simpson particularly wanted to acknowledge the work of carers and foster parents who support and care for the most vulnerable members of our community.

“Many women provide unpaid care to those who are vulnerable and need support – including people with a disability, mental health issues, chronic medical conditions, terminal illness or those who are frail and aged.

“In particular I want to honour the work of foster parents who take children into their home and given them unconditional love and security.

“Women often take on these caring roles quietly, without recognition and they provide substantial long term support to those in need.

“We are also looking to encourage young women under 30 who are leading the way through their achievements in the field of sports, art, fashion, science and innovation and those who are dedicated to serving their community or protecting their environment.

Ms Simpson said that the Award winners will be honoured at a Gala Presentation Dinner to be held on 10 March 2017.

Tickets for the event are available online at http://www.inspireconnect.com.au/sunshine-coast-inspiring-women-awards/ or by calling Sue Frost on 0427 375 727.
