NOW LOCATED - Urgent appeal ' Missing 87-year-old man at Maroochydore

UPDATE 12.50pm January 17: The missing man has been located. A member of the public saw him in a storm water drain in Broadwater Ave, Maroochydore just before 12.30pm. It appears he may have fallen into the drain. He has been transported to hospital for treatment. The below media release has been edited to remove name and photo.

An 87-year-old man left a Wharf Street, Maroochydore residence at 5.15pm yesterday (Thursday, January 16) to go for a walk with police called when he failed to return.

Police and family hold concern for the man- who has dementia, decreased vision and walks with a walking frame- and are appealing for people in the local area to check their properties, yards and sheds.

Police and family conducted searches in the local areas throughout the night without any sightings of the man.

He is described as Caucasian, with a thin frail build, approximately 164cms tall with short grey hair and brown eyes.

He was was last seen wearing a black short sleeved shirt, grey shorts, blue shoes and using his walking frame.

Anyone who has seen the man or has any information which could assist police is asked to immediately contact police.

Local police will be conducting searches of walkways, parklands, river and beach walks within close proximity to where he was last seen.
