Seniors will be able to apply for a Seniors Card and link with Queensland Government concessions, services and supports as part of a roadshow hitting shopping centres across the state over the next nine months.
Minister for Seniors Coralee O’Rourke today (09 August) launched the roadshow while visiting the Royal Queensland Show (Ekka).
“Starting at our stand in the government pavilion at the Ekka, we’re taking this roadshow out into the community to talk to seniors about the concessions, services and supports we provide and show them how they can benefit from our Seniors Cards and concessions,” Mrs O’Rourke said.
“Seniors will be able to come along to the booth here at the Ekka or visit their local shopping centre in the coming months, to sign up for a Seniors Card, learn about what concessions they could be eligible for and find out more on the government’s services and supports.
“The Palaszczuk Government provides a range of concessions to older Queenslanders, helping them save money on a range of goods and services from electricity to medical aids, public transport and vehicle registration.
“These concessions are helping Queensland seniors reduce their cost of living and put money back in their pockets.”
The roadshow will visit 22 locations across our great State, from Cairns to the Gold Coast between now and the end of May 2020.
“I’m pleased that we are here at the Ekka with our roadshow this week, followed by Brisbane and Ipswich next month at Garden City Westfield (Upper Mount Gravatt), Chermside Westfield, Forest Lake Shopping Centre and Riverlink Shopping Centre (Ipswich),” Mrs O’Rourke said.
“In October, the roadshow will visit the Orion Shopping Centre in Springfield (Ipswich), Stockland Townsville Shopping Centre, Capalaba Shopping Centre and Pacific Fair on the Gold Coast.”
The roadshow will also visit North Lakes Westfield, Morayfield Shopping Centre and Sunshine Plaza in November and the Hyperdome (Loganholme) and Mt Ommaney Shopping Centres in December.
Centres in Toowoomba, Hervey Bay, Bundaberg, Mackay, Rockhampton, Gladstone, Cairns and Mount Isa will all follow in the first five months of next year.
The commencement of the roadshow comes in the lead up to Queensland Seniors Week, which kicks off on 17 August.
Mrs O’Rourke said Seniors Week (17 – 26 August) was the biggest event on the calendar for the state’s seniors.
“Seniors Week is a celebration of the achievements and contributions of Queensland seniors in their thriving communities,” she said.
“This year there are hundreds of events in the Queensland Seniors Week calendar across the state, providing entertainment for Queenslanders of all ages.”
The roadshow forms part of the Palaszczuk Government’s commitment to creating thriving, age-friendly communities.
“We want Queenslanders, regardless of their age or personal circumstances, to be able to participate and be included in their communities, be resilient and enjoy social and economic wellbeing,” Mrs O’Rourke said.
