LNP Leader Deb Frecklington today called on the Palaszczuk Labor Government to reverse its callous decision to hike vehicle rego costs to alleviate pressure on household budgets.
Today's 1.8 per cent hike to rego means the cost of registering a vehicle has increased by a staggering 19.4 per cent since Annastacia Palaszczuk became Premier.
"It's incredibly out of touch for the Palaszczuk Labor Government to increase the cost of rego while so many Queensland families are doing it tough," Ms Frecklington said.
"Hiking rego in the middle of a health and economic crisis is completely tone deaf of the Premier when more than 200,000 Queenslanders are out of work.
"Never before have so many Queenslanders been out of work.
"Increasing rego won't help Queenslanders find secure jobs or drag the state out of the coronavirus recession.
"Annastacia Palaszczuk has failed to grasp just how much financial stress many Queenslanders are under right now.
"Now is not the time to be hiking rego when families are struggling with the cost of living and trying to hold a roof over their heads and keep food on the table.
"The LNP has been calling for Labor to freeze car rego, water and electricity prices.
"Only the LNP has an economic plan to get Queensland working again.
"The LNP's economic plan for Queensland includes a no-new-tax guarantee and cheaper electricity prices for regional areas to ease cost of living pressures on families."
