Lightning Assistant Coach Chris Voge

Sunshine Coast Lightning is pleased to announce Christine Voge as the new Assistant Coach, who will support Head Coach Kylee Byrne in Season 2020.

Voge most recently served as Pathways Coach for the Club, which saw her assume coaching duties for Lightning's Australian National League (ANL) affiliate, Territory Storm, over the past two seasons.

As Pathways Coach, she also provided support to Lightning's elite program, through player development, opposition analysis and talent identification.

Voge will commence her new role with Lightning in January after five years with the Queensland Academy of Sport in the areas of Sport Performance Innovation and Knowledge Excellence (SPIKE) and Personal Development.

Voge brings expertise in high performance sport, coaching, education and research to the Lightning program and will continue to be an asset to the team in the new capacity of Assistant Coach.

"Coaching has always been my passion and I'm thrilled to step into the full-time role of Assistant Coach at Lightning and can't wait to see what the group can achieve in the new year," Voge said.

"When looking at the talent of this playing group and the structures in place around them, I have no doubt that 2020 will be another exciting year for the Club."

Byrne spoke highly of the new coaching appointment, describing Voge as an excellent communicator with extensive coaching credentials and tactical nous.

"Chris has been an integral part of our team over the past two seasons and her appointment to Assistant Coach is thoroughly deserved," Byrne said.

"The strong relationships Chris has already fostered at all levels of Lightning is a credit to her and will serve us well, alongside her innate understanding of our game."

The Club prides itself on its ability to attract, develop and retain talent on and off court and CEO Danielle Smith is confident that Voge will excel within the new area of responsibility.

"At Lightning we invest in our people and to see Chris step up as Assistant Coach, as well as Kylee seamlessly transition into the Head Coach role is testament to that," Smith said.

"It's excellent that we can provide such high-calibre individuals the opportunity to progress their careers within the Lightning family and the Club will only benefit moving forward."

This will not be the first time that Byrne and Voge have collaborated as coaches, having previously held the Head Coach and Assistant Coach posts respectively at Queensland Fusion.

The athletes are working hard in the gym towards next season, so don't miss your opportunity to join the Lightning family in 2020. Memberships on sale now. View our full range of membership categories and options here.
