Pioneering: Celebrating 150 years of Bankfoot House

Visit Bankfoot House on Sunday, June 24 as we continue to celebrate the 150th anniversary of this historic, state heritage-listed property which is the oldest surviving building in the Glass House Mountains.

The free event will celebrate pioneering and life in colonial times.

Heritage Portfolio Councillor Rick Baberowski said to mark the 150-year anniversary of the founding of Bankfoot House by pioneers William and Mary Grigor, a special program of events celebrating its stories was being held throughout the year.

“The event on June 24 will take you back in time to the pioneering days of the late 1800s with film screenings about the Grigor and Low families and talks from experts about the region’s history,” Cr Baberowski said.

“Bring the family for a lovely day out, take a free guided tour of Bankfoot House and enjoy complimentary morning tea.”

The major celebration event for the Bankfoot House sesquicentenary will be held on Sunday, October 14.

The preservation and promotion of Bankfoot House is proudly funded through council’s Cultural Heritage Levy – Our heritage, Our stories.

Bankfoot House is located at 1998 Old Gympie Road, Glasshouse Mountains.

Pioneering
Sunday, June 24, 10am – 1pm
The Grigor family were the first European family to settle in the region. Learn all about life in colonial times. View the film about the Grigor and Low pioneering families of the Sunshine Coast. Morning tea at 10am, film screenings from 10.30am.

Cobb & Co
Sunday, August 26, 10am – noon
Hear from guest speakers including Jeff Powell, Curator of Cobb & Co Museum and Steve Ralph, Spirit of Cobb & Co.

Major celebration event: Sesquicentenary
Sunday, October 14, 10am – 3pm
This special event will feature a traditional Welcome to Country, food stalls, live music, guest speakers, guided tours of the house and activities for all the family including a Cobb & Co display, whip cracking, heritage games and film screenings. There will also be novelty competitions and games including best beard, best hat, best apron, skipping, marbles and quoits thanks to volunteer members of the Friends of Bankfoot House.
