QR and Translink must have new management
At 2.30pm on 31 Dec 2017 I thought I had better check on trains from the City to the Sunshine Coast after midnight as the plan was to go to South Bank for the fireworks..... and to go by train.
Translink showed information about a train at 12.48 am ex Roma St but nothing made sense about this service on the website. Translink site said to take a Redcliffe train and change at Eagle Junct and go to platform 4 for Clayfield !!! Then Caboolture to Nambour taking 1 hour 25 minutes arriving Eudlo at 2.41 am.
Luckily as I use the trains to go to Brisbane I realised this information was totally incorrect.
On Translink I then tried entering several different sectors like Roma Street to Caboolture but again nothing made sense and there was not a train showing from Roma St to Nambour until 2.03 am ex Roma Street.
So I phoned Translink and no one there could make sense of the online information and said they would have to check with QR for the times when the trains would actually be operating and for me to check back on line to Translink in an hour !! There was talk that all rail services were restricted on 01 Jan 2018 .....
On the news we hear that Sydney and Melbourne were having many extra public transport services to get people to and from their city centres and in Melbourne all public transport was free and operating all night.
It is the responsibility of the State Government to organise public transport so that people could get to and from Brisbane on 31 Dec 2017 to see the fireworks and then to be able to get home afterwards.
It is totally unbelievable that on 31 Dec QR and Translink were so disorganised they did not know when trains were operating that night !
This is totally unacceptable for such disorganisation by State Government departments. The Transport Minister must dismiss the QR and Translink CEOs immediately and replace the entire QR and Translink management teams with staff who are capable of operating the system.
This same QR CEO who recently visited the Coast and said that QR would be cutting back on rail services to the Coast on week-ends because the public was not using the trains. He is so inexperienced that he did not investigate WHY people are not using the trains at week-ends.
Let this be a warning to the State Government that Translink and QR will simply not have the experience to operate the rail network for the Commonwealth Games - if they cannot organise the rail network for New Years Eve !.
