Queensland regions miss out in cash splash

Published:

Regional Queensland and drought-stricken communities have missed out on crucial infrastructure funding as the State and Federal Governments play catch-up after years of chronic underspending.

LNP Leader Deb Frecklington said today's infrastructure announcement ignored regional and drought-affected communities and provided no funding for the Bruce Highway.

"We need a stimulus package for all of Queensland to get Queensland working," Ms Frecklington said.

"The single biggest issue in Queensland is water security but there is not one extra cent to help regional communities in drought.

"Regional Queensland has missed out and it's not right.

"Funding for the LNP's program of new dams – including the New Bradfield Scheme – should have been included because water is the lifeblood of regional Queensland.

"Both levels of government are failing to do enough to tackle the drought.

"To generate jobs immediately and for the long-term, we need to build dams.

"This announcement isn't going to get Queensland working."

As well as the New Bradfield Scheme, the LNP is backing the proposed Nullinga and Urannah dams, as well as Rookwood Weir and the raising of the Burdekin Falls Dam.

An LNP Government will also back a 10-year Build a Better Bruce Highway plan.

"Only the LNP has a job-creating infrastructure plan for projects that will get all of Queensland working," Ms Frecklington said.

"Queensland is being held back by the Palaszczuk Labor Government.

"I want Queensland to reach its full potential and the LNP's plan will ensure that it does."
