Investigations are continuing after a woman was seriously injured in a traffic crash at Caloundra last night

Emergency services were called to Queen Street in Caloundra shortly after 6.45pm following reports a Holden Commodore sedan hit a tree.

On arrival, a woman who was a passenger in the vehicle, was trapped and had to be cut from the wreckage.

Initial investigations indicate the vehicle was travelling west on Queen Street when it left the road and struck a tree.

The impact caused extensive damage to the vehicle, trapping the 41-year-old female passenger.

She was airlifted to hospital for treatment of critical head injuries.

The driver, a 47-year-old man, was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
